Local elections battle, round no. 1 – DA vs. ANC

The Democratic Alliance says that Edward Dladla, the mayor of the uMngeni Municipality, allegedly owes his municipality R277,000 in outstanding rental, telephone and electricity bills.

Media a Threat to Democracy – Nzimande

Johannesburg – Blade Nzimande believes that print media poses a serious threat to democracy. As appeared on News24:

Print media in South Africa was a threat to democracy, SA Communist Party general secretary Blade Nzimande said in a report published on Tuesday.
“We have a huge liberal offensive against our democracy… The print media is the biggest perpetrator of this liberal thinking,” Nzimande said at the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) congress in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg.

Cosatu Turns up Heat on Cronyism

Johannesburg – Cosatu is starting to focus on corruption and cronyism, with its alliance partner ANC mentioned explicitly. As on News24:

Road Accidents ‘Drain SA of Youth’

According to a recent news article that appeared in News24, transport minister Sibusiso Ndebele said that the responsibility lies upon everyone to obey the road traffic rules and regulations to prevent future fatalities.

“Johannesburg – The pain felt by parents after losing children in road accidents reflects the anguish of a nation busy “eating” its most productive and energetic people, Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele said on Friday.

“This Wednesday alone 21 people were killed in minibus taxi-related road crashes,” Ndebele said at the National Traffic Safety Summit in Boksburg, Johannesburg.”

Zuma to Check on Service Delivery

Johannesburg – President Zuma getting serious about service delivery? As appeared on News24:

“President Jacob Zuma intends criss-crossing the country to visit the worst and best-performing government facilities.  “We will visit the best and the worst hospitals, police stations, home affairs offices, social grant pay points and others,” Zuma told reporters following the ANC’s national general council (NGC) held in Durban.”
